Going Big: Mireia Grimal’s eleven-year evolution at the helm of Barcelona

Going Big: Mireia Grimal’s eleven-year evolution at the helm of Barcelona

Behind every great brand and every memorable event, there are people with extraordinary backgrounds driving that evolution. At the BigBox office in Barcelona, that engine of consistency, rigor, and passion has a name: Mireia Grimal. After eleven years at the agency, Mireia has been a direct witness and a key player in a profound transformation: the shift from a small logistics company to a leading creative agency. Today, we talk with her about the organization's growth, her own personal journey, and her unique approach to team leadership.

From local logistics to global creative strategy

Q. How has the agency become "big"?

A. BigBox is nothing like the Box de Ideas I joined. We’ve gone from being a small company, heavily focused on logistics but with big dreams, to becoming a true agency: creative, strategic, and clearly committed to communication and adding value to every project.

The beauty of it is that, despite this growth, we haven't lost our essence. We remain approachable, caring for every detail with precision, and always putting the client at the center—striving to understand not just what they need, but what more we can bring to the table. We are now "more big" in every way: in team size, structure, knowledge, disciplines… and also in ambition. We’ve learned to think bigger, to be bolder, and to trust our instincts.

The biggest change has been our evolution over the last few years, especially in how we understand our work and the value we provide. We’ve grown in services, capabilities, and in how we tell our story. We are no longer just executors; we are involved from the very beginning—from the idea, the strategy, and the concept.

Our projects have evolved, too. We’ve moved from being primarily a logistics partner to becoming a creative and strategic one. And the most satisfying part is seeing that many of the clients we started with have grown alongside us, understood that shift, and continue to trust BigBox.

Personal growth through rigor and trust

Q. How have you become "big" yourself?

A. I joined when I was 27, with little experience but a very distinct personality: perfectionist, non-conformist, and someone who doesn't just accept a "no" at face value.

I still have that essence, but these 11 years have given me much more maturity, perspective, and confidence. I’ve learned to manage pressure, prioritize, make decisions with better judgment, and understand that everything doesn't depend on one person, but on the team. I am more rigorous and demanding, starting with myself. I like things to be done well, and I apply that to everything: the team, the numbers, the processes, the proposals, and the execution. That evolution has also led me to always want to go one step further, to never settle, and to constantly look for ways to improve.

When I arrived, I was surprised—and I still am—by our ability to turn ideas born in a meeting room into real, tangible, impactful, and well-executed projects. You often start with something very conceptual, and thanks to the team's work, it ends up being an experience that truly leaves a mark. That transformation still feels incredible to me. And all of this is possible because of the team behind it. Then and now. There is talent, dedication, and a real drive to do things right. There’s only one way to sum it up: the BigBox team is amazing, and that is what makes the difference.

Leading through service and the value of real relationships

Q. How do you make people "big"?

A. The people at BigBox are special because of the relationships we build. You don't just work with colleagues here; you build real bonds. Joining BigBox means becoming part of a family, with everything that entails: there’s a great vibe, support, and camaraderie, but also high standards and responsibility. We share the good times, of which there are many, but also the tougher ones, and that brings us closer. There is a high level of commitment, a pride in a job well done, and a way of understanding the team based on mutual respect and admiration.

As an office director, I lead the Barcelona team. To me, leadership means being 100% available to serve the team and support the growth of both our people and our projects. It’s not just about managing; it’s about being right there with the team, understanding where each person is at, and helping them develop.

It’s about creating space for everyone to contribute, make decisions, and learn from mistakes (before it’s too late), because that’s where the real learning happens. But it’s also about knowing when to step in, guide, and set the course so the team stays focused.

Leadership also means providing context, tools, and clarity, building trust, and creating an environment where people feel safe to give their best. Above all, it’s about leading by example: being consistent, demanding, and showing through actions, not just words, how we want to do things.

Eleven years growing alongside BigBox

Mireia’s story actually reflects the evolution of BigBox over the last decade. It’s a growth that isn't explained just by the addition of new services or the development of increasingly ambitious projects, but by a way of working based on trust, commitment, and continuous improvement.

Because becoming "big" isn't just about growing in size. It means thinking more strategically, taking on new challenges without losing our personal touch, and continuing to put people at the center of every experience. That is precisely the evolution Mireia has experienced firsthand and continues to pass on to her team every day.
